Candy Cane 1 year old female ACD mix

Candy is a special girl who will need a special home. Even though we’ve had her since she was a wee little pup she has never gained the confidence her siblings did. Candy has been to puppy classes and did very well so she is eager to learn and to please. Candy is just so slow to warm up to new people and new environments and will never be a “dog park dog”. She does however enjoy walks and hikes where there aren’t a ton of people.

Candy will need a home that is committed to helping her continue to grow and try new things but will also understand that she is who she is and you can’t change that. Just like people, some of us are shyer, quieter and more reclusive than others. Candy is one of those girls who will always be a wall flower, a beautiful one for sure but not one who will ever jump onto the dance floor. With her foster mom she can be quite animated and is a happy girl. We are confident she can bond with another person, her forever person, it will just take time and patience.

Candy would not do well with young children as they exhibit too much noise and commotion for her taste. She loves to have other playful furfriends who aren’t too pushy and even enjoys the cat!

We know that Candy is in need of a special home and are just as committed to finding just the right home just as we do all of our kids. Please think about what type of dog you are wanting for your home and what your home has to offer a dog before looking to deeply into Candy’s beautiful brown eyes. She’s a darling girl but she will need more than snuggles and kisses to be a happy and confident family member.

Candy Cane is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted. She is currently located in Paulden, AZ

**Candy Cane is currently going through some special classes to help her gain the confidence she needs to be able to transition to a new home. Her classes will run until the end of May. We will update her status once we feel she is ready to begin meeting applicants. Thanks!

The first step to meeting any of our dogs is to submit an application. It in no way obligates you to adopt; it is simply part of our process. If the dog you are interested in is adopted before you can meet them or if we do not currently have a dog you are interested in we still encourage you to go through the approval process. Then you will be pre-approved and ready to adopt when a dog does come along that you are interested in.  Apply through the applications page on this website.
