Is an Australian Cattle Dog right for you? Temperament, health, size, nutrition, training, leadership, life expectancy are just some of the factors you will want to consider. It is well known (but vastly under-appreciated) that Australian Cattle Dogs require a respectful, consistent and intentional leader. They are not a breed for pushovers! The ACD is highly intelligent as a breed in comparison to most others. For more information about the breed please go to  http://www.cattledog.com/

Please ask yourself:

Are you committed to a relationship that could last 12-plus years?

ACDs are known to live well into their teens! Consider your future and how your dog will fit the picture. Marriage, family planning, job changes, potential moves, etc. All of these factors impact your family and are some of the reasons these dogs have ended up in the shelters. It is of utmost importance to us that these types of reasons not impact their lives ever again.

Do you have time for adequate walks and play, for grooming, veterinary visits, and daily care? What happens if your work or other time commitments change?

Our expectations require your ACD to be considered as part of your family 24/7. They will not be placed in homes that do not want or allow their dogs in their homes as an integral part of the family. Your ACD will require interaction inside and outside of the home to maintain a healthy level of happiness and socialization.

Your ACD will need YOU to provide clear, consistent and intentional leadership. Otherwise, if left to their own devices they will lead themselves. They may discover trouble they don’t know how to get out of and you don’t want them into. If you aren’t sure what it takes or how, are you willing to attend training sessions with your dog?

In addition to adoption and routine medical fees, will your budget allow for unforeseen expenses, such as unexpected illness/emergency vet bills?

Adoption fees- $250 puppy to age 5- $200 over age 5- Fees may vary depending on circumstances- These Fees cover Spay/Neuter- Micro Chip-Distemper/Parvo series-Rabies and any other health issue needing attention before adoption. All dogs have been seen by a professional licensed veterinarian and deemed healthy unless otherwise noted in Bio.

Dogs are listed as either AVAILABLE, COMING SOON (their available date will be listed in their profile) PENDING ADOPTION (meaning they have several applications in review or are on trial) and ADOPTED.

The first step in our adoption process is to submit an application. This does not obligate you to adopt from us, it’s simply part of our process. You will need an application on file with us before you can speak to our foster homes and or potentially meet our dogs.
